The Park House Trust are delighted to now offer a superb Pack Holiday
House for units to come and stay in at Hawkshead. We have been amazed at the level of support we have enjoyed from all over the country and thank everyone who has helped in any way.Over £310,000 has been raised and the only things left to finish are the garden and the bar-b- que area. The Guide and Scout units are now enjoying having their weekly meetings in Park House and many units have already had a superb Pack Holiday there. We have our own web page for bookings www.parkhousehawkshead.co.uk if you would like to see the facilities on offer. In the Ambleside District which runs from Coniston to Grasmere including Ambleside and Hawkshead we are always on the look out for more unit Guiders if you think you would like to work with one of the units please contact me. We have Rainbows, Brownies and Guides in the villages. Girls aged 14years and older are welcome to come and be a Young Leader. Adults are also welcome to come and give Guiding a try! We have a wide and varied programme, just see what the units have been doing this year! Hawkshead Brownies have enjoyed a wide range of activities during 2003, the unit is usually running at around 24 girls, and welcomes new members at any time. We are lucky to welcome Kay as Wise Owl and Catherine as Barn Owl. This means we are able to have up to 30 girls in the pack. In July we took part in a venture badge, Brownies went to Brockhole, Swimming to Troutbeck on the new space station and visited the climbing wall at Kendal which really was a challenge for some. In October 30 Brownies,Guides and Guiders enjoyed a fantastic weekend in London, some went to Wembley to a pop concert with Atomic Kitten and other pop groups especially for Guide Association members and the younger girls went to Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. We stayed on H.M.S.Belfast which was moored right next to David Blain in his glass cage.Visits were made to the Tower of London, Kensington Palace and the London Eye. The girls had a weekend to remember and the Guiders too! In November with the help of so many people in the community we made up 60 shoe boxes for the Samaritans Purse Appeal this is the most we have made so far. Some of the local ladies had been knitting hats scarves and gloves and had produced 16 sets. If any one would like to help next year we will be doing it again so start knitting now.

We meet on a regular basis in school term time. At present we have 15 Cub Scouts who come from Coniston, Hawkshead and surrounding villages. Activities: Lots of indoor and outdoor things, games like rounders, art & craft work and working towards badges. We have beetle drives and an end of year BBQ, with rounders match against the parents and leaders. We sometimes have joint meetings with the Brownies (games or quizzes). We normally join in the Coniston Boat Dressing competition (see pictures below) although we missed this year. We will certainly be involved again next year (2001). (Sadly called off due to F&M) The older Cubs normally join the Scouts at Summer Camp for a few days. It can be a great way of getting to know new people; we have even met scouts from overseas when we have joined in International Activities. |

The Guide unit at Hawkshead is changing its meeting night to Wednesdays we are delighted that we have found a new Guider so have three Guiders to help with the unit. In the summer the Guides went to camp at Windermere and took part in a wide range of outdoor fun including water sports and riding and a day out at Blackpool pleasure beach. Girls aged 10years - 14 years are welcome to join. If you are over 14 you can come as a Young Leader and take part in activities within the County as well as helping each week at our unit meetings. We are now able to do lots more activities as we are now meeting in Park House that has a new kitchen and a garden area. Carole, Amanda and Claire look forward to seeing you at a meeting in 2004, go on Surprise Yourself and get involved in Guiding. Guiding is the largest women's organisation in the world with over 140 million members worldwide so why not give us a call and start the new year with a new challenge. We really will be delighted to see you. |

Each of these groups has its own style with a variety of games and activities appropriate to the age group. The main thrust of the groups is to give the young people an enjoyable session which is good fun and this is reflected in our numbers which average between 70 and 80 a week. All these groups seek to present the Christian message in a relaxed, relevant way. In addition to the main group meetings, Crusaders are involved in a number of community and wider projects and events: |
