Coniston is twinned with Illiers-Combray,
a town about 60 miles south west of Paris and close to Chartres.  The link was originated because Marcel Proust (the famous French writer, an admirer of Ruskin), in his novel La Recherche du Temps Perdu, based the ideal village of Combray on Illiers where his grand-parents lived and he spent much of his childhood.
Anyone interested in Twinning Activities and particularly participating in exchange visits, please contact John Deavin.

The Chateau of Cheverney is magnificent and was the setting of

The Adventures of Tintin

There have been a number of exchanges  with our friends in Illiers.  Last year a group from Coniston went to the French town and and visited a number of Chateaux of the Loire, including the multi-turreted chateau at Chambourg.  There we also saw a wonderful procession of over 100 historic bicycles from around the world with the riders all in costume.  (See pictures below)
