Club and League Competitions are arranged.  This is a private club welcoming new members and visitors.  Holiday-makers and visitors may use the green on payment of a fee (currently £1 per person perday) but not on match days.
Coniston has 3 teams competing in the Rothay League but many of our fixtures are either for club members only or friendly matches with neighbouring clubs.  We are always glad to welcome new members and pleased to help anyone to develop an interest in this sport.
Current Membership  -  approx 50.

Coniston Indoor Bowling Club is associated with the above.  We usually play on Monday and Friday afternoons during the winter months.  Many members play both games so their 'friendly competitions' continue throughout the year.
Venue:   Coniston Institute, Yewdale Road.
Enquiries to :  Bill Lett  -  41430

SWIMMING

The Open Air Swimming Pool at John Ruskin School, Lake Road, Coniston,
is the venue for this community swimming club.
The pool needs heating, preferably from the sun (but boosted by electric heaters), and is therefore open only in the summer months.

Enquiries to John Ruskin School:  015394  41306

The club owes a great deal to Julie Blaney (secretary) and the committee for much of the work of organising the activities, etc.  Julie points out that, being a Community club it needs people, especially parents, to help during the swimming sessions.  Trained First Aiders must always be in attendance and other help (taking money at the door, etc.) is always needed. Please contact the School if you can help.

Please support fund-raising events for this worthwhile activity.

Joining Fees:   £5 per child for the season.  £15 for a family.

Coniston 14 Road Race

The Coniston 14 "half marathon" is probably one of the most scenic road races in the athletics calendar. It usually attracts over 1000 entries every year. It starts and finishes at the John Ruskin School and leads you on a glorious route anti clockwise around Coniston Water.

CONISTON CHILDREN'S SPORTS

Chairman: Dave Shepherd  Tel: 41581

An annual event held on the John Ruskin School field,
starting with a Fancy Dress Parade, this year's event attracted several entries with a Millennium connection.  The Parade departed from the Crown Hotel at 12.45 pm and made its way through the village to the School where families and race competitors were waiting.  Judging this year was by Mr & Mrs Hughie Carroll.  There were prizes for all but the standard was very high.

The Parade (24 June 2000)
The Tot's Sprint

Lots of events for all ages:  Sprint races, potato races,  egg and spoon, sack races, cross country, relays and even a high jump.  Visitors are invited to compete though trophies are reserved for local children.
Thanks to the organisers for a lovely day!

TORVER CHILDREN'S SPORTS

This annual event is usually attended by about 30 children and most of the villagers come to watch.  The children compete for cash prizes as well as trophies for the top boy and girl on the day.
The programme begins with a Fancy Dress Parade followed by a variety of races, the last of which is a fell race.
Tea is then provided for all the village.
